Steve Yanoviak Travel - Tropical Destinations

Below are a few travel suggestions based on my personal experience and/or knowledge of people who are involved with these companies.  These are my opinions.  If you disagree or have a bad experience with any of these businesses, don't complain to me.

General:

Check out Greentracks if you are looking for a good tropical ecotour company.  They offer a variety of destinations in Central and South America.  But if you are the kind of traveler who needs A/C, internet, and hot water, then look elsewhere.  Although certainly not 'roughing it', Greentracks tours are designed for people who want to experience tropical nature and who are willing to leave behind cell phones and other creature comforts while doing so.

Peru:

Interested in spending a relaxing time at one or more Amazon River lodges?  I highly recommend Explorama Tours.  They have been in business in Iquitos for more than 40 years (a feat in itself!) and offer excellent service, comfortable accomodations, and good (safe) food.  Explorama is the largest single employer in Iquitos.  They are known for treating both their employees and the people of local communities fairly.

Costa Rica:

If you plan to travel in Costa Rica, be sure to visit Reptilandia and say hello to my friends Quetzal and Monica.  Reptilandia offers an excellent opportuinty to learn about and handle some of the more interesting herps of the world.

The Osa Peninsula is one of the last relatively pristine places to see in Costa Rica.  When you go there, stay at the El Remanso lodge.  El Remanso is known for its high-quality ecofriendly accomodations.  Their outstanding website provides a wealth of information.
